Library Collection
Dear Parents,
It is our goal to make sure everyone is happy with their child's library experience. Our library has many wonderful books for our students to choose from. The library collection has been carefully developed following the Troy School District Collection Development Policy.
We service students in grades K-5 and while all of our books meet district standards, we understand that each family has their own belief system or parent preference regarding reading materials. We encourage you to review your child's choices when they bring their books home. While we do provide guidance to students during book check out time, it is our policy to allow students to select books based on personal interests rather than reading level.
If a book is at a higher reading level, please encourage your child to use the reading strategies they have been learning at school. This is also a great opportunity to read the library book with your child.
If at any time you are uncomfortable with the books your child has selected, simply have them bring the books back the next morning and they will be allowed to select new books.
Here are some great articles about the importance of book selection.
